There has been a large spate of lead thefts from the canopy above front doors, with 17 separate crimes all being reported in the last three weeks. So far these have all been around the Bury Old Road / Heys Road area.

The local police has spoken to a local builder and asked his advice on preventing the lead thefts.

If you are replacing the lead on your roof the best way to help prevent it being stolen is to buy a tin of BITUMEN PAINT and paint the roof, then pin the lead on top of the paint with CLOUT NAILS into the roof.

If you have lead on top of your roof already, then my advice would be to buy some CLOUT NAILS and then paint ANTI VANDAL PAINT on top of it.
