Residents may remember the controversial decision by Transport for Greater Manchester to re-route the 154 service directly up the A56, rather than serving the Sunnybank and Pillsworth Area earlier in the year.

This move means there is no direct bus route between the Bury Old Road side of Prestwich and the Pilsworth area.

My colleage Cllr Tim Pickstone  asked a question on this issue at the last meeting of Bury’s Full Council, in response to the over 300 strong petition that had been sent to T4GM and signed by the many people who use services in that area (e.g. people who work at the medical centre, people who work at and use ASDA, etc).

T4GMs response is that people should change at Besses. He did raise that for many people this is not a realistic or safe option and that surely T4GM could reconsider.

There is a meeting of the Whitefield and Unsworth Township Forum on Tuesday 7 January.

Transport for Greater Manchester will be there to discuss concerns, particularly the re-routing of the 154 service. A representative Ring and Ride will also be there to talk about their services and how local residents can access them.

The meeting takes place at the Elms Community Centre in Green Lane, Whitefield, and starts at 1pm.
