by prestwichfocus on 20 May, 2015

Pennine Care NHS Trust, who operate the community NHS services throughout Bury are organising a ‘Fun activity event’ to mark the launch of their ‘My Health My Community’ initiative on 29 May 2015.

There is a launch event leaflet here.

Pennine Care say:

“You are invited to come along to a FREE activity day on 29 May to celebrate the launch of an exciting new scheme that will help people to better manage their own health and that of the people they care for.

On the day, you can come along and find out more about My Health My Community and a brand new app and website for children with type 1 diabetes. The app and website has been named Sugar3 and has already been shortlisted for a prestigious Nursing Standard Excellence Award.

You can also enjoy a short massage (pre-booking essential), cuddle with cats, rabbits and guinea pigs from Noah’s A.R.T, try their hand at rag rugging and get crafty with pom-pom animals. A free picnic lunch will also be on offer for all attendees.”

The My Health My Community programme has been jointly developed by service users, carers and professionals. The aim is that everyone works together to ensure people have the confidence, skills and knowledge to improve their own health and wellbeing and can reach their full potential.

There are a number of initiatives which sit under the My Health My Community ‘umbrella’ including:

– Community courses: These are offered on a whole range of topics including self-care, mental wellbeing, specific conditions and skills for carers and have been developed in partnership with the University of Manchester
– An overarching My Health My Community website: This will contain a range of educational modules, personal trackers, health tools, community resources and information
– Sugar3 website and app for children with type 1 diabetes: This will provide advice, videos, and much more to help children better manage their condition
– A children’s asthma app: This is currently being developed with health professionals and children who have asthma, to ensure it meets their needs

The event will run from 10am to 4pm and people can come all day or drop-in. It is being held at the Talking Point Conference and Exhibition Centre, Huddersfield Road, Scouthead, Oldham, OL4 4AG.
