Reporting back: Local Issues

by stevewright on 21 November, 2018

Just to report back on a number of local issues that have been raised by residents in recent weeks:

White Lines Nursery Road / Bury Old Road
Thank you to residents who have raised the issue of the faded white lines on Bury Old Road at the junction with Nursery Road. The ‘turn right’ filter line had almost become invisible with genuine safety concerns with cars were waiting to turn right in the middle of the road. Thanks to residents raising this we have now been able to get the Council to re-paint the lines.

White Lines, Longfield Centre Car Park
Thank you to residents who have (had to) raise this issue again, about the poor state of white lines, in particular the direction arrows on the Longfield Centre car park. This was first reported to the Council over a year ago, and followed up a number of occasions. Myself and colleagues have now asked for this to be dealt with as a matter of urgency on safety grounds (the danger of collisions or pedestrian accidents with cars driving the ‘wrong way’.

Fairfax Road and Heywood Road Metrolink Bridges
The nuisance of pigeons perching under the Metrolink bridges is a recurring problem with the bridge over Fairfax Road a particular concern. Metrolink have undertake some remedial work here to repair netter. At our request they are also going to look at an alternative solution to netting at this site, because it clearly doesn’t last long and keeps having to be repaired. A similar problem has also been addressed on Heywood Road (near the end of Heaton Street) which should hopefully alleviate the problem there.

Simister Lane Ciccanes
Residents will have noticed that since the resurfacing of Heywood Road going into Simister village, the 2nd ciccane has been taken out. This is temporary, there will be some form of speed restricting traffic calming going back in, but at our request the Council is consulting with residents about the most appropriate form of traffic calming for that particular location. We’re consulting directly with Simister residents on this, but if other residents have views please do get in touch.

Baguley Crescent
A huge thank you to the teams from the Council’s waste management and environmental services teams who have cleared up the bulk of the fly-tipping that was blighting the areas between many of the flats and garages on Baguley Crescent. The clear up has made a massive difference in an area which has suffered really badly from fly-tipping for a number of years.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there are issues in your area we can help with.

Mary, Tim and Steve
