Changes to Bin Collection Rounds

by stevewright on 21 May, 2021

From 21 June our Waste Management Service will introduce new, more efficient collection rounds.  This will mean:

  • a change in collection day for most households, but not all;
  • around 5% (approx 4,000 households) will have a separate collection day for their brown bin.
  • How often we empty bins will not change
  • During June extra one-off collections will be provided to some households (those that would otherwise have to wait too long between collections as we transition from the existing to the new rounds).

You should already have received a Pre-notification leaflet (delivery to all households between 10 and 28 May)

Extra one-off collection leaflet(s) (delivery to applicable households between 1 and 18 June)

Information pack – replacement 18-month calendar and a collection day leaflet (delivery to all households between 31 May and 18 June)

Why collection rounds are changing?

  • Bury last reviewed the collection rounds in October 2014, nearly seven years ago.
  • Since then, many new homes have been built and the collection rounds have become out of balance as a result.
  • The Council now collect from 83,750 homes and some of the rounds take-in a lot more properties than others.
  • The Council has invested in a19 new collection vehicles to improve reliability and provide a better service (twelve new vehicles will be in use by June and seven more by autumn).
  • The changes will save £150,000 a year, and reduce lorry milage by 4,600 miles a year.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries at this stage.
